Mad Scientist Fair

We enjoyed our "Mad Scientist Fair" at the Summit View Campus yesterday. Students were able to share their projects with one another and with visiting parents. We also kicked off our new unit on Economics. Please check back for photos from yesterday's session.
Next week's meeting will be on Wednesday instead of Thursday due to the School Spelling Bee.

Week 3- Earth & Space

Week 3 has come and gone. We spent the day exploring Gravity on Earth and then formulating how he gravitational pull on other planets would affect our performance on the planets in our solar system. The students went to 4 different centers.

UNIT 2 Earth and Science

We are finished with weeks 1 & 2 of our new unit on Earth and Space. Students spent week one exploring the 3 stages of a river's life, their weight in space and the process of erosion. Students also had fun creating their "Handy Dandy Science Notebooks". Check out the photo!! During week 2 we explored Constellations and the Greek Myths that go along with them. Then the students created their own constellations and myths. The students were very creative and thoughtful with their original constellations. They turned out great!

Immigration Unit Comes to an End!!

Today was our last in class session on immigration. Students participated in "The Meeting of the Minds" show. We had the students dressing up and taking on the characters of their immigrants. Among the participants were:

• Arnold Schwarzenegger
• Joseph Pulitzer
• Andrew Carnegie
• Greta Garbo
• Elizabeth Blackwell

Students used research to prepare to be "interviewed" as their immigrant. We all learned a tremendous amount about the lives and contributions made by these immigrants.

Thursday is our field trip to the Cincinnati Museum Center. We will be visiting the Cincinnati History Museum and attending a Learning Lab called "Coming to America" We are all very excited to make this journey!!!!

The Countdown is on!!!!!!

We are getting ready for our first Project ASCENT field trip on October 15th! Make sure that permission slips and payments are in ASAP. Students will need to have a packed lunch on Thursday, October 15th. It is going to be an exciting day!

Immigrant Interviews

Today we researched immigrants who have contributed to American Society. We focused on eight immigrants that have impacted American life. Students have a task to bring back props, clothing, etc. to help them become their immigrant for next week's session. We will be creating a television show to showcase what we have learned about these famous immigrants!

We had a great first day!

Our very first day of Project ASCENT has come and gone. The students did a wonderful job digging right into our topic of immigration. We did a lot in our three hours together including creating this acrostic poem about immigration:

Immigrate

Meet Americans

Many people came to America

In the 1800's and now

Grant the wish of freedom

Really excited, tired, hopeful

America welcomes you

The lady welcomes you

Immigrants are all different

On the land of the free

Now you are home!

Our First Session

Tomorrow we will meet for the very first time at Taylor Mill Elementary. I am very excited to meet everyone and start on our adventure together!!

Project ASCENT Orientation

We had our Project ASCENT orientation last night at the Community Center located on the Summit View Campus. Principals, Instructional Coaches, students, and parents from Taylor Mill Elementary, Summit View Elementary and Kenton Elementary were in attendance. Parents were given details about the new school based program by representatives from Central Office. Then each school's Instructional Coach and Principal met with their parents and students to answer any questions. Materials were given to parents and students including an outline for the Units of Study that will be presented over the course of the school year. The evening was a success!! Thanks to everyone who came out in support of Project ASCENT!
